The deeply spiritual, interconnected healing art of Reiki (pronounced ray-key), is a specialty of choice for those who wish to tap into the healing energy of the universe. Reiki is a widely known form of energy healing, considered a holistic system for healing, balancing and personal growth. With roots in ancient Japan, Reiki is based on the customs handed down for generations. As practitioners align with the ancient healer within them, they learn to use ‘Universal Life Energy’ or ‘God-directed Energy’ for healing and relaxing themselves and others, developing higher consciousness, and fulfilling their spiritual purpose.

The term “Reiki” is a combination of two Japanese characters – Rei which means “spiritual” or “sacred” and Ki which means “energy.” In the West, Reiki is often described as healing therapy for the universal life force energy – an unseen force that gives us life and flows through us. It is believed when this life force energy is low, we are more likely to become stressed or ill. When it is high, we are more joyful and healthy. Reiki is a clothed modality administered by channeling energy through the hands, and can have remarkable healing effects. Treatments are often described as feeling like a warm, glowing radiance flowing through and around the body.
Although Reiki training involves learning symbols and techniques, the healing ability itself is not “taught” in the usual sense. It is transferred to the student by a Reiki Master during an “attunement,” allowing the student to tap into the unlimited supply of universal life force energy.
SWIHA offers both Traditional and Transformational Reiki programs. Traditional Reiki is based on techniques that have been developed and practiced for many years. Transformational Reiki is a newly evolved teaching of this healing art, incorporating elements from Native American and world ceremonies into the training. Transformational Reiki includes using sounds, chanting and an accelerated revealing of the sacred symbols.
Transformational Reiki combines and integrates Reiki I, II and III. The sacred Reiki symbols are revealed from the beginning. The program includes sacred mudras and Reiki angels and Masters. Students participate in a Sacred Ceremony to align closer with source and the ancient healer within.
