SUMMARY:October Gifts and Graces: Remembering the Way Home
DESCRIPTION:Our world is increasingly in a crisis of separation and isolation. With influences all around us seeking to keep us alone and make us forget that we are all connected. We are all related. We all belong. As we move into Autumn when the Earth reminds us of the need to slow down and look within\, the most powerful healing comes through remembering our individual and shared humanity. This night\, we go on a journey\, through Polarity\, breath\, movement\, and sound as we seek to reconnect with our way home.\nJoin Dr. Brad Boute\, Gary Strauss and Dr. Steve Kingstein. As part of this night\, we are all invited to participate in a Shamanic Healing Ceremony through Music. Composed by Dr. Steve Kingstein\, “Songs for the Four Parts of the Night” invites us all to share in the healing words of Owl Woman\, a Tohono O’odham woman from the turn of the 20th century. \n“A composer’s intention is paramount in the creation of any piece of music. It is the primary aspect of the work that must be addressed without deviation or dilution. The music I have composed to accompany these poems is unlike any that I have written for the concert hall\, commercial work\, or musical theater. My intention for this music is that it is an element of a Shamanic Healing Ceremony. Rather than having been written for an audience; it was created in service to the listening participants. If I was successful\, there will be a symbiotic “oneness” in place between the music\, the poetry\, the narrator\, and those who seek any form of healing. I invite all who hear Songs for the Four Parts of the Night to “hollow out” and reap the bounty of Owl Woman’s healing spirit”. ~ Dr. Steve Kingstein \nDr. Kinigstein’s Bio\nOriginally from New York\, Dr. Steven Kinigstein began studying Guitar and Music Theory at the age of eight. He played his first professional gig at the age of twelve. Unable to afford formal composition lessons\, he initiated his compositional training by studying the scores of the masters which were available at the Library of the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center. \nUpon completing high school\, Steve went on the road with several different bands. Tired of life on the road\, Steve settled In Manhattan\, where he earned his living as a studio guitarist and as an orchestra member in several Broadway shows. During that period of time\, he studied Renaissance Lute with Michael Jaffee of the Waverly Consort\, and Jazz Guitar with Jim Hall\, George Benson\, and Ike Isaacs. \nHis formal training as a composer began at Manhattan School of Music under the guidance of Ursula Mamlok. Milton Babbitt was made aware of Steve’s music\, and with his recommendation\, Steve received a full merit-based scholarship to Columbia University where he earned his Master and Doctoral degrees.\nAfter Gifts and Graces\, come experience a mini energy session from one of our practitioners or vendors. Toe Reading\, Reiki\, Tarot Reading\, Polarity\, Coaching and more will be available. Gratuities are Suggested.\n**This is a complimentary in-person/FB Live event**\nPlease RSVP to attend in person to rsvp@swiha.edu\nPlease RSVP to FB Live here
