B-I-T-E Into a Healthy Lifestyle

By Dee McCaffrey If you’ve been chewing on the thought of improving your food choices and starting your journey toward a healthy lifestyle, there is no better time to begin than now. March is National Nutrition Month, an annual campaign organized by the American Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics aimed at educating and empowering Americans into healthier lifestyles. The theme for this year’s nutrition month is “Bite into a Healthy Lifestyle” which encourages everyone to make informed food choices, keep portion sizes in check and engage in fitness routines that are meaningful and enjoyable. The word “bite” means to take a small piece of a bigger portion, chew it well, savor the flavor and then swallow before taking the next bite. This year’s theme can be interpreted to mean that healthy living is not about making grand changes all at once. Rather, it is a steady continual process that allows … Read More

What is this ‘overwhelming urgency’ I feel in my Life?

It has been called it Destiny or Fate. Some describe it as the Dharma and Karma process. Paulo Coelho, author of one of the all-time besting books, The Alchemist, has taught millions that each person must discover his or her own personal legend—the unique path that leads to an individual’s destiny. And well known motivational speaker, Anthony Robbins, advocates that we must “awaken the giant within!” One of the great graduates of Southwest Institute of Healing Arts, James Patrick, describes this internal phenomenon yet another way. He calls it our ‘Life Sentence’! James is an impassioned Life Coach, motivational speaker and ordained minister who knows from personal experience that we cannot escape the work we are “sentenced” to do here on earth. He believes we are intrinsically linked to our personal calling. To describe the great human search as a Life Sentence may sound a little dramatic at first, yet … Read More

SPIRITUAL STUDIES – AN ENLIGHTENED VIEW OF LIFE

“If you light a lantern for another it will also brighten your own way.” Although these words were spoken more than 700 years ago by Nichiren Daishonin, a Buddhist monk, the same attitude is reflected within the 14 students who will be ordained in a special ceremony on Dec. 5, 2014 at 6:00 pm at Southwest Institute of Healing Arts (SWIHA) in Tempe, Arizona. This will be SWIHA’s biggest Spiritual Studies ordination to date. The ordination will take place during SWIHA’s monthly Gifts and Graces event, held on the first Friday of every month. This event is complimentary and open to the public. Guests are invited to come for the event and stay after to experience complimentary sessions of energy work, spiritual coaching, toe reading and more. The graduates are Sheila Taylor, Carol Valentino, Diana Claybaugh, Keta Baker, Kathryn Beauchamp, Carole Hewitt, Ronald Tobin, Michael McCaffrey, Lisa Pulce, Tammy Gordon, … Read More

Be a Life Coach – The Power of Personal Transformation

“Coaching is the process of healing your mind. When you heal the mind, you transform your life.”Richard Seaman,Lead life coach and instructor at Southwest Institute of Healing Arts (SWIHA). Whether it’s life coaching, spiritual coaching or business coaching, the process of helping an individual recognize and bring out the best in themselves is a truly transformational process for both the coach and the client. While acting coaches, voice coaches and athletic coaches have been around for many years, life coaching is a relative newcomer in the field. Kathleen Simonds, a life coach, hypnotherapist, teacher and graduate of SWIHA became a life coach after moving from California to Arizona. The former English teacher was already known for her expertise in the hypnotherapy field and became excited about the prospect of becoming a personal coach. “I learned about SWIHA and went to the campus and leafed through the catalogue,” said Simonds. “I … Read More

All Aspects of the Art of Health

The ‘earth’ without art is just ‘eh’ . . .
. . . according to Holistic Wellness Practitioner Heather Krompacky, who works in the town of Talkeetna, Alaska, at the base of North America’s tallest mountain, the magnificent Denali.
Imagine . . .
. . . entering a room for a holistic session with a new practitioner, someone you have never worked with before. There are colorful candles burning, the light is low due to the salt lamps placed strategically around the room. Soft music is playing and a lovely, aromatic fragrance is wafting through the air. You begin your session with your practitioner; maybe you experience hypnotherapy, nutritional coaching, or aromatherapy, all as an aspect of a holistic life coaching session with a competent and caring practitioner. You feel a sense of comfort due to the open and honest space from which the ‘Change Artist Extraordinaire’, as the practitioner is known, works. At the end of the session, you are offered a soul-coaching card, to provide continued insight and affirmation. Read More
