Southwest Institute of Healing Arts’ comprehensive 200-hour Cranial Unwinding program may be taken to fulfill part of a primary specialty requirements within some of our degree or diploma programs, to enhance a professional status, or simply to further the student’s own personal growth and development through continued education.
Cranial Unwinding is based on the research of osteopathic physician John Upledger, founder of the Upledger Institute. With gentle manipulations, the therapist learns to read the story of the client’s body, finding places where they are holding issues and following the natural restorative directions given by the client’s own physiology. The techniques is known to bring balance and promote healing throughout the whole body.
With healthy boundaries, both practitioners and clients often experience powerful healing transformation as they develop a completely non-invasive and client centered relationship. This grounded, therapy honors the individual’s own innate healing process as they connect and harmonize with the fluid nature of the body on both the physical and emotional levels.
* NOTE: Certificates of Excellence are not necessarily designed to serve as stand-alone vocational training and may not prepare you for gainful employment if taken independently of a diploma or degree program.
“Cranial Unwinding,” also known as “Craniosacral Therapy,” is a clothed, hands-on therapy where the practitioner uses subtle palpation skills on the client’s skull, spine and cerebrospinal fluid, easing or releasing restrictions in nerve passages.
Students in the Cranial Unwinding Certificate of Excellence program study introductory and advanced Cranial Unwinding, including cranial anatomy, listening skills, polarity, communications, resonance and relations, and more.
